Gino Tomasi Archive 1948 – 2014

The archive includes manuscripts of Tomasi’s works, files related to naturalists from the Trentino region of every era, bibliographical notes particularly in reference to lakes, personal documents (diaries, private letters, reports and notes), administrative documentation relating to the various positions he held in institutions and associations, press reviews on issues of environmental interest, excerpts from publications, photographs and negatives.

Sub-series 6.5 Laghi, 1961 – 2004

This sub-series includes documents relating to the Trentino lakes, including lake Tovel. The material relates to environmental protection, the minutes of study group committees dealing with problems of lakes, reports, press reviews, study projects, articles by Gino Tomasi, bibliographical extracts and postcards, correspondence with local scholars, bathymetric samplings from lakes, environmental safeguard projects, reports and photographs of underwater research activities undertaken on the lakes of Trentino by underwater research organizations in collaboration with the Natural Science Museum of Trento.

It includes documents pertaining to the protection and reintroduction of bears into the Tovel Valley Also to be found in this file is correspondence as well as reports on submerged logs at the bottom of lake Tovel.

There is also material on study projects as well as documents relative to the study project on the absence of the red hue in Lake Tovel (SALTO), which was promoted by the autonomous Province of Trento and conducted by the Agrarian Institute of San Michele along with remarkable of scientific teamwork in the period 2001-2004.

Series 8 Attività e partecipazione ad iniziative diverse, 1953 – 2014 {132}

This series includes documents produced by Gino Tomasi during his working life. There are files with titles which cover all the areas of interest of the author, including correspondence, catalogues, lists, leaflets, contributions to conferences, regulations, convocation notices, aphorisms and poems, dating back to the period 1953-2014.

The file is of particular importance as it contains documents relating to Tomasi’s bibliographical research on Lake Tovel. These documents represent the basic framework for Tomasi’s drafting of his monograph “Natura alpina” published in 1989 “Lago di Tovel: dall’immaginario al plausibile”. The file also includes a list of bibliographical notes in chronological order and subdivided into the following themes: general and monographs, zoology, botany, geology, hydrobiology, limnology, climatology, geography and toponymy, environmental conservation and protection, history of tourism and folklore.
